Not too accurate, some of the shapes are a bit off, but I am improving at drawing from life, and thats what important.

This is a blind contour of Xaviers red plastic chair. we originally had 4 of these and a red plastic chairs and a table to match but wear and tear has reduced them down to two. I decided to do an Andy Warhol style illustration and my favourite is the green one at the bottom.

This is a still life of all the bits and bobs you need to make a cup of green tea (apart from a kettle). This was a piece of homework we were set at school to draw a cup and saucer. We don't have any cups and saucers at home but I thought this pencil drawing of a mug would cut it.

Poster Competition

this is a poster for TS Bob Allen, The flagship of the junior sea cadets. It is a small square-rigged brig based in Weymouth for cadets aged 10-13 and a half. I am too old to go on it and have instead been on its bigger sister, TS Royalist, but this year my brother Hugo will be setting sail on little Bob.

This was a quick collage using crayola coloured paper and the packaging to a huge packet of paper. I'd been meaning to do it in illustrator but once it got to this morning and my mother wa still busy on the computer I just decided to do a collage. This isn't the best IF I've done but it was very quick and it will do!

This is a watercolour and brush pen picture of me on my second birthday, thinking of other things. I am wearing a traditional chinese outfit from my auntie Rachel in Hong Kong. I'm sure at the time I wasn't imagining Shakespeare quotes or E=mc2 (my maths teacher would probably argue that she was on her second birthday, along with pythagoras' theorem et al) but there's a lot of potential in a two year old.

Illustration Friday - SURPRISE

At six am on sunday, everyone within a 10 mile radius of the buncefield oil terminal was woken to the sound of an explosion. Everyone, that is, apart from me. I have always been a deep sleeper and when I finally roused myself at 7.15 and opened the curtains the sight was hard to believe, and I think it fully counts as a surprise. This is the view from a family walk on the monday aternoon, drawn in photoshop while my parents and were at the mother and toddler group (along with my two year old brother), and I am pleased to say for the first time I didn't even have to ask my graphic designer mother about layers etc.
All the local schools have been closed for the last two days, so it feels like it's already the christmas holidays, but having just checked the school website I'm sad to say it's back to school for three more days before I can truly relax
But on the plus side, it is a non-uniform day tomorrow.

Another surprise is just after finishing this, I saw my mother had drawn pretty much exactly the same picture on her blog on sunday. She insists my one is better, but I'm not too sure. Take a look for yourself.

This is a collage of a typical ‘strongman’ in a carnival. Like my last collage, it is cut out of guardian newspapers and colour supplements. I’m really pleased with the way it looks and I particularly like the golden face on the seal’s ball.

Also I am pleased to announce that today the winner was announced for the lord mayor of St. Albans’ Christmas card, and it was me! It was really great to have so many people congratulating me and the £50 cheque just sweetened the deal. As a poor schoolboy desperately in need of money so I can spend loads of money on my busy social life and Christmas presents for friends, I am willing to be commissioned to design Christmas cards for the same amount! This is a slightly out of proportion drawing of the Oriana, a P&O cruise ship we stayed on for the weekend, on a trip to Zeebrugge. We had loads of fun, my mother instantly dashed to the cybercafe where she couldn't resist blogging in the middle of the sea.

This was a chalk crayon drawing done on a saturday morning whilst wondering whether I had packed everyting I needed for our weekend trip to Bruges. We had lots of fun and I returned to see a letter saying my christmas card entry had been put into a shortlist of 11 drawings from an entry of 300. We'll find out in a week if I win.

This is a quick blind contour of a TV remote coloured in on photoshop. When I heard the theme for this week was remote I immediately thought of a remote desert island with a lone traveller sipping coconut milk but it being the holidays I let my mind have a well deserved rest.

This is an acrylic painting done as an entry for a local 'design a christmas card' competion i read about in the local paper ages ago but only just managed to finish by the deadline of today. After sprinting up to the clock tower to take some reference photos and 4 hours hard graft in the study, I'm quite finished with the result and conveniently it fits into the IF criteria of 'cold'.

When I heard this week's challenge I immediately thought of a 'Sea Of Tranquility' sort of post. I then thought back to my sailing holiday in Greece and all the tiny greek fishing boats. This is my first all-computer illustration for illustration friday. I used adobe illustrator with a bit of guidance from my mother.

This picture was inspired by me being in a hurry to try out my new acrylic paint set.
I am quite pleased with the mud on the seabed because I was just slapping on loads of paint and I think it looks quite effective. One of the smaller brown fishes had a great haggard expression on it but I managed to ruin it with over-zealous outlining. Never mind.
